Ionart Studios, Front VFX, and Lampion Pictures Form New Regional Collective for International Productions
New regional collective, coordinated with SurrealArts Group, unites three of Hungary's leading studios, combining their capabilities and industry relationships to serve international productions
BUDAPEST, Hungary and LOS ANGELES, California — Ionart Studios, a Budapest-based CG, VFX, and animation studio and creative partner within the SurrealArts Group network, today announced the formation of a new collective with fellow Hungarian studios Front VFX and Lampion Pictures. The collective, coordinated in partnership with U.S.-based SurrealArts Group, an international creative collective founded by Emmy Award-winning VFX Lead and Supervisor Mark A.J. Nazal, who heads it as Executive Producer, brings the three studios together to serve international productions choosing Hungary.
The collective unites three distinct areas of strength within the Hungarian production landscape. Ionart brings expansive CG experience across high-end gaming cinematics and live-action projects, with credits that include NCIS: Tony & Ziva and Halo on Paramount, as well as Afterburn, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Dave Bautista. Lampion brings on-set VFX supervision and compositing expertise, with credits including Death of a Unicorn and Nuremberg. Front VFX contributes high-end compositing and feature-level experience, having worked on projects including The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, starring Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans, and Ari Aster's Midsommar. All three studios have also collaborated on regional blockbusters including Now or Never! and Dragons Over Kabul. Together, the three studios combine their capabilities and their individual industry relationships into a single regional presence, positioned to take on a broader range of international productions than any one studio could support alone.
"This is about more than any one studio's credits. It's about establishing what Hungary's visual effects community can do when three strong teams combine their capabilities," said Nazal. "Ionart, Front VFX, and Lampion each bring something different to the table, and formalizing that as a collective gives all three studios a stronger position in a market that continues to grow and evolve across the region and all over the world."
The collective underscores Hungary's continued momentum as one of Eastern Europe's most active production hubs. Earlier this year, the Hungarian government lifted the cap on new incentive registrations that had been introduced by the previous administration, restoring predictability to the country's film production incentive. Combined with an expanding pool of local VFX talent capable of supporting international-scale productions, the environment positions the collective to take on a growing volume of international work. Alongside this announcement, the collective is also sharing a joint reel featuring work from all three companies.
SurrealArts Group will be showcasing the work from the new regional collective at upcoming industry events in Los Angeles this fall.
